Location: Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, Springfield, MO
Unveiled: 25/5/2017
Sculptor: Harry Weber

Inscription(s):
Plaque: The statue is the work of Harry Weber of St. Louis and portrays Virdon as a Pittsburgh center fielder, making a catch of a deep fly ball off the bat of Yankees legend Yogi Berra in the 1960 World Series. Virdon's defense was a key to the Pirates' victory in the Series, with a running catch of Berra's shot in the fourth inning of Game 1, a contest Pittsburgh led 3-2 at the time. He had another acrobatic catch in the seventh inning of Game 4, a game the Pirates led (and won) 3-2. Virdon, a West Plains High School graduate and longtime Springfield resident, played 12 seasons in the big leagues, from 1955 to 1968. He won the 1955 National League Rookie of the Year with the St. Louis Cardinals, then was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1956. As a manager, Virdon won 995 games while leading the Pirates (1972-73), Yankees (1974-75), Astros (1975-82) and Expos (1983-84). He is the all-time winningest manager in Astros history, with a 544-522 record.
