Plaque 3: Tony Robichaux was a great teacher of baseball but was without peer as a teacher of life and how it should be lived. He directly taught hundreds of young men how to be better husbands, better fathers and better friends. It is fitting that this memorial portrays what brought “Coach Robe” the most joy and what he did best – teach. Along the way, he taught all of us to be better people and he continues to teach us to this day. Baseball was important to Coach Robichaux and he respected the game at a level that only those closest to him realized. He was always gracious when awards and accolades came his way and never failed to give credit to the players, the coaching staff and all who were part of the Ragin’ Cajun program. Coach Robichaux also happened to be one of the winningest coaches in college baseball history and had more victories than any UL coach in any sport - 1,177. He reached a goal by taking the Cajuns to the College World Series and to many other triumphs but that was not his mission. Had he and his players never won a game or celebrated a victory, his impact on those around him, his legacy of compassion, faith, servant leadership and sacrifice would still remain immeasurable. Although Coach Robichaux is dearly missed, his uncompromising standards and legacy continue on as we reflect on this memorial, in honor of a man who never sought to be honored. 36. [signature].
