Getting to Offbeat

The usual venue for Offbeat is the Raynor Lounge, on the bottom floor of Sheffield University Student's Union. For the benefit of the unaquainted, it is a cosy little nightclub with comfy seating, dancefloor and bar. In January 2006 it was refurbished and extended so that we can fit more of you in!

The Sheffield University Student Union is on Glossop Road, at the western edge of the city centre. It is easily accessible by a wide range of public transport - supertrams (yellow or blue routes) and buses (numbers 51, 52, 40, 120) run regularly from the train and bus stations or city centre to virtually outside the SU's Glossop Road entrance every 10 minutes. Journey time is 5 to 10 minutes and the fare is approximately 1.20.

Full transport details can be found at the University's Visitors Travel Guide. Other useful sources of information are the Mainline buses and the South Yorkshire Travel websites.

For those travelling from a distance by train, the National Rail enquiries, National Express and UK Traveline sites may be of help. Those from Chesterfield, Mansfield or Nottingham may be interested to know that there is a late night coach back from Sheffield to your home towns, departing Sheffield at 1.45am - details here.

Also available are maps of the university area and an accomodation guide for Sheffield (Central, West, North-West and South-West areas generally most convenient for the University).

When arriving at the Student's Union, enter through the 'Bar One' entrance in Glossop Road, which is simply a double-door in the wall underneath a large sign. Walk through the archetypal student bar ahead of you, turn right and the entrance to The Raynor Lounge is ahead of you.

From 2013 we are pleased to say that the SU is now open to non-students without them having to be signed in or on the 'Offbeat' list. It might still be advisiable to bring some form of ID if you are a non-student but it is unlikely you will be asked to show it if you just say you are going to Offbeat.
